Picabeen provides a range of activities which are all conducted by volunteers.  The activities at Picabeen not only enhance people’s skills; they also serve to build interpersonal relationships and create a sense of belonging.

A friendly group of people from many countries work with our tutors to improve their spoken and written English. Join this free activity from 9:30am -11:30am on Fridays except during school holidays. No need to book.

Scrabble

Join the lovers of words on Friday afternoons as they challenge each other for the top score or just enjoy creating words. $5 per session.

Basic computer skills

You have bought a computer but now you want to use it. Join our Tutors on Thursday or Friday mornings when he will show you how to manage emails or simple Word documents.  No one will laugh at you but there will be laughter as everyone enjoys these sessions. It’s free!

Yoga Classes

MONDAY YOGA

Morning Hatha – 8am – 9am.
A well-balanced class of poses (asanas) connecting the mind, body and soul. Class will vary between longer holds and a gentle flow sequence. Designed to strengthen, improve flexibility to support vitality of life and stillness of mind. Suitable for all levels $5 charge

Rise & Flow – 9.30am – 60 mins – $5 charge

Gentle, slow flow class, igniting warmth within to commence your day. Connecting the rhythm of breath with movement and awakening your senses. Promoting strength, flexibility, and mindfulness – finishing with calming Yin poses – Suitable for all levels

WEDNESDAY YOGA

Yin Yoga – Wednesday from 10:30 am – 11:15 am  – 75 mins. Cost is $5 per session. A slow paced on the mat yoga style stimulating release of fascia/connective tissue. Use of props ( bolsters, blocks) to assist relaxation of muscles. A truly peaceful, meditative class nourishing mind, body and soul. Classes are suitable for all levels. A great class to begin your yoga experience

Older Women’s Network (Qld) Inc (OWN)

is a network of groups of older women who celebrate the wit and wisdom of their lives. The program promotes discussion and action on healthy ageing, access to information, dealing with loss and change, and much more. OWN meets at Picabeen on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 10am to 12pm. Membership is $14 per year and $2 per meeting. OWN members meet for lunch after each meeting and on the last Saturday each month at a local venue. No meetings in January.

Older Women's Network

Playgroup

Join us for our playgroups on Fridays and Monday at Picabeen, 10am – 12pm Parents, grandparents and caregivers are welcome! We have arts and crafts, games, music and stories.

 

In addition Picabeen holds a number of community events throughout the year. Annual events include Harmony Day, Volunteer Recognition, Seniors Week activities and an End of Year celebration.
